New Banksy mural with tree leaves appears in north London

LONDON (Reuters) – A new artwork by British street artist Banksy has appeared in London. He sprayed the side of a building with green paint to mimic the foliage of a real, heavily pruned tree that stands a few meters in front of it.

A photo of the mural was posted on Monday to Banksy’s official Instagram account, where the artist typically takes responsibility for his artwork to his more than 12 million followers.

When viewed from certain angles, the green paint lines up with the tree’s bare branches, representing its leaves. The work includes a signature Banksy stencil of a person holding a spray gun dripping green paint.

The renowned street artist’s latest work has generated interest and excitement across social media platforms, including from MP and former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who represents the north London borough where the artwork was created.

“Banksy has come to Islington! What a wonderful piece of art that proves there is hope for our natural world everywhere,” Corbyn said in a post on X.

In December, a Banksy artwork depicting three grey drones flying over a “STOP” road sign in south London was removed in broad daylight by an unidentified man as passers-by watched. Police later made arrests.

This fate seems unlikely for his latest work, which spans the height of a mature tree and several floors of a large building.
