Netflix’s new movie “Daughters” has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but no one seems to be watching it

The new Netflix film Daughters has received a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics, but it seems like hardly anyone is watching it.

Daughters seems to have gone completely unnoticed, failing to make it into Netflix’s global top 10 most-watched movies – although these five thriller flops did last week. Since its release on August 14, it has received 50 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, giving it a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

The award-winning documentary is certainly a hidden gem hidden among all the new releases on Netflix in August 2024. When I started looking, Daughters In Netflix’s “New” section, I had to click through four rows of recommendations before I found it, so it’s incredibly easy for new titles to get lost in the flood of content on the best streaming services and go unseen by many people on the mainstream competition.

Another reason Daughters The reason The 40th Anniversary may not get the attention it deserves is perhaps because of its heartbreaking subject matter. The documentary centers on four girls preparing to be reunited with their fathers at a special father-daughter dance in a Washington DC prison. The documentary lays bare the emotional torment that their father’s incarceration puts on the young girls, and subscribers may opt to watch an action-packed blockbuster over the weekend to spare themselves the tears. Daughters is a powerful and touching portrayal of love that deserves more attention.

Have tissues ready

Simply one of the best Netflix documentaries. Daughters follows Aubrey, Santana, Raziah and Ja’Ana as they prepare for a “father-daughter dance” with their incarcerated fathers as part of a unique fatherhood program where in-person visits have been prohibited since 2014. In prison, the fathers undergo a 12-week fatherhood training program that prepares them for the emotional fallout of the day and prepares them to advocate for their daughters.

Daughters is an eight-year documentary journey by filmmaker Natalie Rae and social activist Angela Patton, in which the girls also talk about their hopes, dreams and the emotional impact their father’s absence has had on them.

While Netflix’s marketing didn’t work Daughters Honestly, there were a lot of positive reviews, Mashable wrote: “Daughters is undoubtedly one of the best documentaries you’ll see all year. It’s insightful, moving, and breathtaking to watch. Patton and Rae focus on the experiences of four little girls to illustrate such a specific loss that is often overlooked in conversations about the criminal justice system.”

The Guardian added: “Barely a minute into this poignant documentary about a father-daughter dance program for the daughters of incarcerated fathers in Washington DC, I almost choked on the emotional power of this magnificent Sundance Prize-winning film.” Meanwhile, Rolling Stone said: “‘Overwhelming’ is an understatement. Tissues won’t stop the flood of tears – on the screen or in your living room. Even the hardiest viewer will shrink into a puddle.”

Looks like I’m going to need tissues when I get around to watching this. daughters.
