Netflix documentary reveals NBA star Jayson Tatum turned down by the Celtics

Anthony Edwards felt good after the Minnesota Timberwolves handed the Boston Celtics their first loss of the 2023-24 season.

So much so that the Timberwolves guard ripped Celtics star Jayson Tatum in the locker room after Minnesota’s 114-109 overtime win at Target Center.

Normally, what Edwards said about Tatum would never have seen the light of day. But thanks to the Netflix documentary “Starting 5,” which followed five NBA stars – Tatum, Edwards, Jimmy Butler, LeBron James and Domantas Sabonis – last season, fans got a behind-the-scenes look at Edwards’ trash talk .

“Hey, you see Tatum trying to get me on the counter, he got his ass locked up twice, Jay,” Edwards said. per NBA Central. “He starts talking (expletive). Tatum told me, ‘Yeah, I’m here.’ I said, ‘I’ll be back.’ You’re talking about the best player in the league. You’re all stumbling.”

Edwards actually edged Tatum in this contest earlier in the season. Edwards flirted with a triple-double as he posted a game-high 38 points on an efficient 15-of-25 shooting, nine rebounds and seven assists. Tatum also had a strong performance, scoring 32 points on 12-for-22 shooting with five rebounds and five steals.

But the real highlight for Edwards came when he pushed the ball away from Tatum in overtime and drew a jump ball. This really made Edwards puff out his chest.

It’s unclear whether Tatum knew what Edwards said before the documentary. Regardless, there doesn’t appear to be any animosity between the two, as Edwards is known for his trash-talking. The two won a gold medal together at the Olympic Games in Paris.

But Edwards’ dissent against Tatum will only get worse when the Celtics and Timberwolves meet for the first time this upcoming season on November 24 at TD Garden.
