Nebraska volleyball sweeps Michigan State

On the first day of a back-to-back presentation, you want to get things done quickly. Nebraska volleyball did just that on Friday in East Lansing.

The No. 2 Huskers (17-1, 7-0 Big Ten) defeated the Michigan State Spartans (7-11, 0-7 Big Ten) 25-15, 25-19, 25-15. Nebraska remains undefeated in Big Ten Conference play while Michigan State continues to search for its first league win of the year.

NU hit .364 on the night and held MSU to .141.

Three Huskers scored in double figures, with Harper Murray and Taylor Landfair having 12 each. Andi Jackson had 10 kills while hitting .600. Jackson also added five blocks and helped Nebraska outscore Michigan State 10-4.

Bergen Reilly had 34 assists and nine digs

Nebraska is back in action on Saturday at Ohio State. This game is scheduled for first serve at 2:30 p.m. on NBC.

Nebraska Athletics Set Synopses

Sentence 1: The Huskers started 5-2, with Beason starting with two kills and a block, while Murray had a kill and Jackson had two blocks. But Michigan State fought back and took an 8-6 lead after a 6-1 run. The teams traded points back and forth until a 4-0 Husker run by Beason made the Big Red score 17-13. Jackson had one kill before Murray had two consecutive kills. Another kill from Murray and a block from Jackson and Reilly gave the Huskers a 19-14 lead. Nebraska closed the set with a 6-0 run and won 25-15 with three kills from Landfair, one from Murray and one from Reilly.

Sentence 2: Jackson had two kills around one from Reilly as the Huskers led 7-4. After MSU got within 7-6, Landfair and Murray had back-to-back kills before Allick and Landfair made a block, and another Landfair kill made it 12-6 after a 5-0 serve from Orr. Allick and Landfair again had kills to increase the score to 14-7, and kills from Allick and Beason helped NU to a 19-8 lead after a 5-0 run by Olivia Mauch. After Michigan State went on a 5-0 run to get within 19-13, Murray scored on a sideout kill and another from Jackson kept NU on top 21-15. The set ended 25-19 after Landfair’s ninth kill.

Sentence 3: NU led 7-5 after a kill from Jackson and an ace from Beason. Murray, Landfair and Allick added kills as the Big Red gained a 13-9 lead. Back-to-back kills from Beason and Murray gave NU a 15-11 lead at the media timeout. Murray had two straight kills and Jackson had two straight kills before a Landfair roll shot made it 21-13 for the Big Red. Reilly and Jackson combined on a block, and Jackson scored a kill for a 23-13 lead. Beason finished the match with a kill, 25-15.
