The Why

Caleb Henry: Nebraska will out-perform UNI. I expect more deep passes in the passing game than the Huskers did last week. The Panthers will get a field goal against the Blackshirts’ front line and then score a late touchdown when the third and fourth lines get their hands on it.

Austin Jacobson: Matt Rhule wants to make Nebraska a championship team. Part of that process is winning games — like this one — convincingly. While it won’t be an SEC sweep, as the Panthers’ traction and power limit possession, it feels like the Huskers’ score doesn’t reflect the actual feel of the game. The best stat after this game will be how many NU players contributed — my guess? 100.

Eric Hess: Nebraska takes an early lead and the starters get some valuable rest before a short week, while the second unit gives up some points in the second half.

Josh Peterson: The emotion of the game against Colorado meant the game was a little choppy at times, with the wide receivers recovering from a play midway through the game and the defense committing a few turnovers.

ThotDoc: This outcome may depend on coach Matt Rhule, as it will depend on when he decides to pull the Hounds back. UNI is a run-first team, and that doesn’t bode well against a Blackshirt defense that allows just 36 yards per play. Barring a turnover spree, the Huskers should score early and often, allowing Rhule to come off the bench in the 4th quarter.

Cole Stukenholtz: The Blackshirts manage the shutout, Raiola remains efficient and Alvano hits two field goals on a feel-good Saturday night.

Middle-aged ball coach: In recent years, Nebraska would have probably let the win against Colorado go to their head and then struggled against Northern Iowa. This year’s team seems different: hungry and focused. You can feel it from the players and coaches at the press conferences. Lack of focus is the main cause of turnovers, penalties and mistakes, which are the building blocks of losing to a weaker opponent. I don’t think that will happen. I see waves of hungry, aggressive players, especially on defense and in the trenches where it counts most. The extra focus on the special teams will hopefully help too. Northern Iowa is running into a buzzsaw.

Tad Styker: The Huskers’ offense will be motivated by the weak second half against Colorado.

Chris Fort: Nebraska’s offense is in full swing from the start, giving the substitutes plenty of playing time. Northern Iowa scores a touchdown in overtime.

Enrique Alvarez-Clary: Nebraska’s offense scores three touchdowns by passing, three runs, and two field goals from over 30 yards.
