NCDMV plans to add more self-service kiosks and expand its services

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – New services now available at the NC Department of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) Self-service kiosks.

NCDMV currently has three kiosks across the state, one in Charlotte, Raleigh and Fayetteville. The kiosks are part of a pilot program designed to reduce wait times for service and lines at the DMV.

Originally, users could only renew and obtain duplicates of driver’s licenses and IDs or register to vote. However, as part of the expanded services, they can now also renew vehicle registrations and pay property taxes on new vehicles. At the end of the transaction, the kiosk prints a license plate sticker and a registration card.

“I’m pleased to announce that these new services are now available through our kiosk pilot project,” said NCDMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. “This is another example of our work to reduce lines and wait times by using technology to modernize our customer service and give our customers more options to get what they need in a timely manner.”

Since the kiosks were introduced, over 3,400 transactions have been processed through the devices.

“The public response to the kiosk pilot project has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Goodwin. “I look forward to announcing the locations of additional kiosks in the coming weeks and months.”

The only Charlotte kiosk is located in Harris Teeter at Riverbend Village on Smith Farm Road.

NCDMV plans to announce the opening of six more kiosks later this month, with three more to be added in Mecklenburg and Wake counties. There are plans to add another in Fort Liberty.

Customers using the kiosks must pay a $4.95 service fee and a two percent credit/debit card processing fee. For more information about the self-service kiosks, visit Here.
