NBA results: Donovan Mitchell keeps the Cleveland Cavaliers undefeated

Donovan Mitchell’s basket with less than a second left ensured the Cleveland Cavaliers maintained their undefeated start to the NBA season with a dramatic 114-113 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks appeared to be on course for victory when Damian Lillard gave them the lead with a jump shot with 10 seconds left.

But Mitchell’s late answer gave the Cavs the lead again before Lillard’s buzzer-beating attempt bounced off the backboard in a thrilling finish.

The win means Cleveland remains atop the Eastern Conference with a perfect 7-0 record, while the Bucks sit second-to-last with five losses in six games.

“This is a big victory. They gave it their all,” said Mitchell, who finished the game with 30 points, four assists and three rebounds. “As a group, we just keep fighting and fighting.”

In return, Lillard top-scored for the Bucks with 41 points, nine assists and four rebounds, while Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 34 points and 16 rebounds.

“I’ve been in the league for 13 years and have had some tough nights, ups and downs, individually and as a team,” Lillard said.

“The only way to move forward from there is to get back to work, keep a clear head and try not to think about it too much.”

The Oklahoma City Thunder remains the only other undefeated team in the league after winning Los Angeles Clippers 105-92 to stay atop the Western Conference.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 25 points and nine assists as the Thunder opened the season with six straight wins for the first time in their history.

Luguentz Dort, Jalen Williams, Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe and Chet Holmgren all scored in double figures for Oklahoma City, which has won all six games by at least 12 points.
