CANASTOTA, NY – On October 9, National Grid representatives visited the village of Canastota to make a generous donation as part of the company’s “Project C” initiative.

At a small ceremony at the village’s pool/playground on Chapel Street, National Grid donated $12,500 to the village’s recreational programs. This money will be used for a new accessible elevator for the swimming pool, which will replace decades-old systems. The check presentation was attended by National Grid employees, Mayor Rosanne Warner, Deputy Mayor Douglas Gustin, Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Brian Miller.

Canastota Village

The tornado damage in Canastota cannot be underestimated. Several homes along Barlow Road were damaged by the storm and one person died. The nature of the storm created complicated repairs for National Grid employees, who were welcomed by the community for front yard barbecues and food truck gatherings while working in the area.

“On behalf of the residents of the Village of Canastota, I would like to sincerely thank all of the National Grid staff and volunteers who have come to the village and assisted us with numerous projects to beautify our community,” said Mayor Rosanne Warner of the Village of Canastota. “National Grid and its caring staff were not only there for us after the devastating tornado, but also returned multiple times to help us complete projects that are making a difference in people’s everyday lives. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their generous donations of time and money, which will be used to purchase a new disabled swimming pool lift for our municipal swimming pool. Without their help, the village would never have been able to replace the aging unit for which we can no longer obtain replacement parts. National Grid’s unwavering commitment to communities has a greater impact on some of the most vulnerable residents and we thank them for all their support.”

A $12,500 donation to the village will be used for beautification and improvements to the Spencer Street Pool and Playground, including equipment and field improvements.

The park also benefited from company volunteers during Project C Week of Service. Staff teams improved park and pool accessibility to make the park more inclusive for people with limited mobility.

The Village of Canastota would like to thank National Grid for its generous contribution as well as the two Project C service days held last September.
