Motorola Razr 50 review: performance and battery life

While I generally agree with the cost-cutting Motorola has made on the Razr 50, performance is one area that desperately needs some attention aside from the external display. Unfortunately, the new MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset’s performance is similar to last year’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, and even slightly worse in some places.

As you can see below, the Razr 50 only just managed to pull ahead of the Razr 40 in our Geekbench 6 test, coming in around 8% ahead in the multi-core portion. Take a look at the non-foldable phones here and you’ll see how much speed you’re sacrificing for the foldable format.

In the GFXBench GPU stress test, things look even worse, with the Razr 50 delivering worse results than its predecessor. More worrying is how much the top half of the phone heated up while I was playing around with some of the pre-installed games on the cover display. I can’t have been playing for more than ten minutes, but the screen got uncomfortably warm. This also happened when playing on the main display, although it didn’t get as hot as when playing on the cover display. Either way, the cooling system clearly needs improvement.

More clearly, the battery life is excellent – ​​simply put, it is excellent. The Razr 50 lasted 25 hours and 21 minutes in our loop video test, which is not only the best result we have seen from a clamshell phone, but also better than some non-foldable flagships, like the Google Pixels 8 And Apple iPhone 15.
