Mosaic, music, military mark the former president’s 100th birthday

A solid century in life deserves a big celebration, and that’s what happened in the days surrounding the 100th birthday of former US President Jimmy CarterTh Birthday on October 1st.

The celebrations began on September 17th with a star-studded concert at the historic Fox Theater in Atlanta. “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” featured artists from pop, rock, gospel, country, jazz, hip-hop, Afro-beat and classical music. Acts included Angelique Kidjo, BeBe Winans, Carlene Carter, Chuck Leavell, D-Nice, Drive-By Truckers, Duane Betts, Eric Church, GROUPLOVE, India Arie, Lalah Hathaway, Rickey Minor Band, Spelman College Glee Club and The B -52’s, The War And Treaty and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus. The hilarious show can be viewed on-demand at Jimmy Carter 100 | Georgia Public Broadcasting.

More than 9,000 admirers from across the United States and 81 countries have now submitted photos and videos to create a mosaic of President Carter at various stages of his life. The images were accompanied by warm messages of love and appreciation.

Among the many personalities who send out Birthday greetings on social media were President Joe Biden; former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama; comedian Jon Stewart; actress Lynda Carter; country music legend Willie Nelson; and actor-activist Sean Penn.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared October 1st “Jimmy Carter Day” in the state “to recognize his legacy as our 76th Governor and 39th President.” And as a fitting tribute to the U.S. Navy veteran, a quartet of roaring Marine fighters Jets flew over President Carter’s home in Plains, Georgia, where family and close friends gathered to celebrate the big birthday – a milestone no other American president has achieved.
