Monday is Columbus Day. Here’s what’s open and closed in Springfield

Monday is Columbus Day, a federal holiday, which means federal offices will be closed and mail will not be delivered.

The state of Illinois has retained Columbus Day as a holiday, while Illinois lawmakers in 2017 designated the last Monday in September as statewide Indigenous Peoples Day.

Here you can see what is open and what is closed on Monday.

Banks

Some banks in Springfield are closed, for example: Prairie State Bank & Trust, Clock Tower Community Bank and INB. Heartland Bank and Trust Company is closed, but telephone customer support is available.

Other banks such as Bank of Springfield and United Community Bank are open.

Government building

Federal buildings and courts, as well as Illinois state offices and courts, will be closed. Sangamon County offices and courts will all be closed.

The community center will be open.

Schools

Springfield Public Schools has the day off.

Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Lutheran High School and Calvary Academy will not be in session. Schools in Jacksonville are off on this day.

Ball-Chatham and Rochester schools will not be in session.

The Midwest Institute of Technology in Springfield is not taking place.

The University of Illinois Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College will meet.

Public transportation

Sangamon Mass Transit District buses will begin regular service Monday.

More attractions

The Lincoln Home and Lincoln Tomb are open during normal hours. At the Abrham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library, the museum remains open but the library is closed.
