Modest MouseGood News for People Who Love Bad News – Anniversary Tour, November 19th

It is probably time for a discussion about the greatest songwriters and lyricists of the 20th century, and in that discussion Isaac Brock of Modest MouseAnd there’s no better way to demonstrate a particular strength than to re-listen to the Portland indie icons’ groundbreaking 2004 album. Good news for people who love bad newswhich, following an expanded release on Legacy Recordings earlier this year, will get a 20th anniversary tour this fall, including a stop at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on November 19 with The Black Heart Procession. Featuring era-defining tracks like “Float On,” “The World At Large” and “Ocean Breathes Salty,” the record went double platinum here in the States, sold two million copies and helped the band rise from underground heroes to mainstream success, setting the tone for the next two decades. “‘Float On’ wasn’t really written until the last few days of recording,” says Brock Rolling Stone. “When it was finished, I thought, ‘Yeah, this is fun.’ I mean, lyrically, I felt like it was maybe a little too silly and stuff. Like, ‘This is fun, but is it silly?'” History will decide. Tickets go on sale Friday (August 23) at 10 a.m. local time.
