SPRINGFIELD, MO – Missouri residents should prepare for the first freeze of the season, with temperatures expected to drop into the low 30s by Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield has issued a Freeze Warning, particularly for areas along U.S. Route 65 and Interstate 44. Residents are urged to take precautions as frost and possible freeze conditions are expected through Wednesday morning.

According to the NWS, this cold air mass moving through the region will bring widespread frost from Springfield to the eastern Ozarks, with low temperatures reaching 33°F early Wednesday. Gardeners and homeowners should cover sensitive plants, while drivers may want to prepare for potentially slippery conditions during early morning commutes.

The forecast shows persistently cool temperatures until the middle of the week. On Columbus Day, highs will reach 66°F and lows will reach 43°F. Tuesday brings another significant drop with highs as low as 62°F before frost develops overnight. The high on Wednesday will only reach 18°C, with frost possible again tonight as temperatures drop to 17°C.

By Thursday, temperatures should gradually rise, reaching a high of 20°C, with clear skies expected through the weekend. Residents are advised to closely monitor weather updates and follow safety recommendations, especially on roads such as Route 60, where early morning frost could impact driving conditions. For additional weather advisories, see the NWS Springfield Weather Forecast.
