Missouri High School Football Predictions for Springfield Area in Week 2

play

It’s Week 2 of the Missouri high school football season and our predictions for the Springfield area games are in.

Springfield News-Leader sports reporter Wyatt Wheeler started the season 22-2 (91.7%).

Here are his tips for week 2.

Missouri High School Football Predictions Week 2

Nixa at Webb City

Nixa 37, Webb City 28: The Cardinals silenced any questions surrounding their quarterback situation in Week 1 thanks to a strong game from Jackson Lucas, who threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Nixa seemed to be on a whole different level last week in a 49-14 win over Republic.

Glendale at Willard

Willard 17, Glendale 14: These two are rebuilding quite a bit this year, both have new coaches and new systems. We expect the Tigers to continue the dominance of the old Central Ozark Conference teams against the newcomers to the Ozark Conference.

Kickapoo at Neosho

Neosho 27, Kickapoo 21: The Wildcats offense showed how good it was last week, gaining 555 yards against Glendale. This week will be a lot tougher against a solid Kickapoo defense, but the Chiefs offense still seems to be on the rise.

Ozark in Carthage

Carthage 37, Ozark 24: Carthage looked like the second-best team in the Central Ozark Conference last week as it ran away from Waynesville in the second quarter. Ozark is a much better team than it was a year ago and should give Carthage a tougher challenge than it has in years past.

Lebanon in Joplin

Lebanon 35, Joplin 31: The Yellowjackets should be one of the best teams in the COC in their first season. Jax Glendenning still managed 198 yards and two touchdowns on the ground last week against a strong Webb City defense. Joplin allowed 153 rushing yards to Kickapoo but limited itself to just 32 yards through the air. Lebanon doesn’t have to throw the ball to beat you.

Mount Vernon near Seneca

Seneca 24, Mount Vernon 21: Seneca made a statement last week with its 55-16 win over Cassville, showing they still have a lot left in the tank after last year’s runner-up finish. The Mountaineers escaped a tough defensive battle against Aurora in Week 1 and will need more offense to pull through this game.

Marionville near Forsyth

Marionville 34, Forsyth 20: Who would have expected the Panthers’ 30-0 win over Father Tolton? Following an impressive Week 1 performance, they’re hosting the defending Class 1 state champions. You can’t play Marionville until you see someone beat them.
