Following the approach of Hurricane Milton, Miami International Airport recently experienced another scare as it was evacuated today.

A police investigation led to the evacuation of two terminals at Miami International Airport after reports of a “suspicious object.”

Miami-Dade Police reported that the investigation took place in the airport’s South Terminal, which consists of Departure Halls H and J. The suspicious item was an unattended bag in the departure area of ​​the terminal. Nevertheless, the airside and landside areas of the terminal were evacuated.

As of 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, the all-clear was given and operations in these halls resumed.

Miami’s South Terminal is the airport’s main non-OneWorld international terminal. Delta Air Lines and various non-OneWorld international airlines fly from here.

Due to the evacuation, several flights that departed Monday afternoon were delayed by about two hours. These included various Delta departures on flights operated by Lufthansa, Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, Avianca and TAP Air Portugal.

Due to the incident, some Delta arrivals in Miami experienced delays at their departure airports. These included a flight from New York (JFK) and one from Orlando (MCO).

It has not yet been revealed whose bag was left unattended. In addition, it had to be stated what was found in the bag.

Coming hurricane

Days before Hurricane Milton’s expected landfall, several Florida airports are experiencing flight cancellations as they fall into mandatory evacuation zones.

Both major airports in the Tampa Bay region, St. Petersburg-Clearwater (PIE) and Tampa International (TPA), have announced cancellations. St. Petersburg would cancel all flights for Wednesday and Thursday, while Tama International would suspend operations at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Hurricane Milton is expected to maintain its hurricane status as it moves toward Florida and across the Atlantic coast. Further flight delays or cancellations are to be expected.

At this time, East and South Florida airports have not announced any major disruptions. These include Jacksonville (JAX), Orlando International (MCO), West Palm Beach (PBI), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Miami International (MIA).
