Meet Tesla’s Optimus robot, a humanoid “friend” that can do anything

He can serve. He can dance. He can take selfies. He can talk. He can do anything “whatever you want.” This is Tesla’s Optimus robot that can be your humanoid friend. At Tesla’s “We, Robot” event on Thursday in California, US, several humanoid Optimus robots were seen walking the ramp and serving drinks to attendees.

“It will do basically anything you want. It can be a teacher. It can take care of your kids, walk your dog, mow your lawn, get groceries, just be your friend and serve drinks. Whatever you can imagine, it will work and it will be great,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said as he unveiled the latest launch.

In a demo video shown at the event, Optimus was seen collecting packages and doing household chores such as watering plants, cleaning the kitchen countertop, unloading groceries and playing with children.

To prove his claims, Musk brought a series of Optimus robots to the party and asked people to be nice to them. “You can walk right up to them and they serve drinks at the bar. It’s quite a wild experience having humanoid robots. They’re there, right in front of you.”

Optimus will cost $20,000 to $30,000 in the long term, Musk said.

Internet loves Optimus.

An X user shared a video of Optimus greeting people, chatting with them, and taking orders. Take a look:

One user commented: “Didn’t it feel like you were traveling back in time being there? This event certainly made history.”

Some users raised eyebrows at Optimus’ interaction abilities. One X user wrote: “Is Optimus really talking?” Somehow I feel like there’s a human behind it.”

Another said: “The people mingling and serving drinks were remote but still really impressive.”

“If Optimus’s manual dexterity is equal to that of a human, I would be interested in purchasing it. Especially when it can access and learn information on different topics. I could use the help working on our rental properties and around our house in Arizona,” said another, expressing interest in the innovation.
