Matt Brolly’s book based on “The Alliance” in the works for television

EXCLUSIVE: Matt Brolly’s thriller novel The Alliance is being adapted for the small screen. A mixed Korean-English language television adaptation is in preparation at Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, starring Kim Bo-tong (DP, Badland Hunter)attached for writing.

Based on Brolly’s book, published by Thomas & Mercer in April, The Alliance is a gripping global thriller sparked by four simultaneous murders in different cities that are broadcast on the internet, baffling authorities and sending shockwaves around the world, according to the official login. The key may lie in the blindfolded witnesses each crime left behind. Inexplicably, these witnesses return to their respective lives unharmed, but with a dark mission they cannot refuse. Through them, the Alliance unleashes a dangerous and provocative game that will captivate audiences around the world. All hope rests on Shannon, who will lead these cities’ most powerful strike forces as they strive to work together and stop the Alliance before it’s too late.

Bo-tong is the creator and co-author of the webtoon DP which was adapted into the Netflix military drama. The series won several awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards, making it one of the best Korean dramas of 2022. Bo-tong’s other screenwriting credits include the six-part anthology film King of the desert, the cheerful outcastand the feature film Wilderness, with Ma Dong-seok (aka Don Lee). He was also the showrunner of a trilogy commissioned by Korean media giant CJ ENM and is also the creator of the drama series beamthe sequel to the world famous Justice of the Devilstarring Lee Jung-jae. It is represented by CAA.

Brolly is the bestselling author of the DCI Lambert crime novels Dead water, With dead eyes, Dead lucky guy, Dead embers And Dead time; the celebrated crime novel about the near future Zero; and the thrillers set in the USA The controller, the railway, And The Running GirlsThe DI Blackwell series, starting with The crossing in 2020 now includes six books, with the seventh due out in September 2024. After studying law, where he developed an interest in criminal law, Brolly completed his Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow. Brolly is represented by the Independent Artist Group and Trident Media Group.
