Match Preview: Bay FC vs. Kansas City Current

Bay FC (9W-13L-1D; 28 points) returns home to host Kansas City Current (13W-3L-7D; 46 points) at PayPal Park on Saturday, October 12th at 7:00 PM PDT. At the stadium, Bay FC honors Latino Heritage Night.

As part of the celebration, fans can watch a variety of cultural performances, including Spartan Mambo, Cunamacué and Los Bahianatos at Plaza del Bay FC (FanFest), Gabriela Sepúlveda singing the national anthem and Grupo Folklorico Los Laureles at halftime. The evening also includes education, recognition of community organizations and a special piece of the Match t-shirt designed by local artist Emilio Cortez, as well as a limited edition Latino Heritage Night pin. Find out more here.

This game marks the first time that former Bay FC defender Kayla Sharples returns to PayPal Park after joining Kansas City. In August, Bay FC acquired Jordan Silkowitz and Allocation Money from Current in exchange for Sharples.

Kansas City is in 4th placeTh in the NWSL standings and earned a 2-0 win on the road against Racing Louisville FC. Bay FC’s defense will have its hands full with Temwa Chawinga, the NWSL’s first Malawian player, who has a clear lead in the race for the Golden Boot with 18 goals and 6 assists. The last time these two teams met, Chawinga scored her first brace in the league.

With strong offenses on both ends of the field, this game could be a battle for points. Asisat Oshoala has been in her best form of the season in recent games for Bay FC, scoring the team’s last four goals, taking her total to seven goals this year. Oshoala and Racheal Kundananji met last week against NJ/NY Gotham FC, with Kundananji providing the assist for their first goal of the season together.

Bay FC is currently in 8th placeTh Place in the NWSL table, and a result against the Current could help them solidify their position in the fight for the playoffs. Over the weekend, Bay FC fans can also keep an eye on Portland Thorns FC’s results, who are currently just above Bay at 7Th Place and Racing Louisville FC, who are just behind Bay in 9th placeTh Location.
