Man safe after tree tears garage to pieces

A Bolton man has spoken about the moment a tree fell on his house.

Paul Greensitt lives in Meadland Grove in Astley Bridge.

This morning around 6:45 a.m. a mature sycamore tree fell into Paul’s house and damaged his property.

Paul said: “There is no real damage to the house or conservatory, but the garage and greenhouse are obviously completely destroyed.”

However, Paul remained calm about the implications and said he was insured.

Paul was already awake when the tree fell and said: “I looked out at first and thought it was the conservatory, but no, it borders directly on the house without causing any damage.”

“This tree is actually older than the house, and the house was built in the 1950s.”

Now, according to Paul, some local residents will come by with chainsaws and remove the tree for him.

He added: “There are people who have horses and stuff, they’re all equipped with chainsaws and everything – at some point they’ll come along and remove the tree – but I don’t think he realises how big the thing is!”

The damage occurred after the traffic network in the Bolton area was disrupted for several days. The A666 was closed for hours due to a fallen tree, leaving drivers stranded.

The rail infrastructure was also disrupted. Among other things, there were disruptions on the Clitheroe line and traffic on the Manchester Metrolink connection was almost completely suspended.

The Food and Drink Festival in Bolton was also affected: the celebrations were postponed until Saturday after strong winds damaged the stalls and stages used for the event.

A day earlier, the Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for this morning, warning that gusts of up to 80 miles per hour were expected in the community.
