A rescue helicopter took a man to hospital after he fell 30 feet from a tree he was working on in Algonquin on Wednesday afternoon.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to a report of a fallen person in the 200 block of Souwanas Trail in Algonquin around 2:10 p.m. Wednesday.

John Knebl, chief of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department, said a man fell about 30 feet from a tree while on the job.

Rescue workers arrived on the scene after about three minutes and found the man – who, according to Knebl, was about 40 years old – lying on the ground and in need of medical attention.

“The firefighters treated the patient immediately and advised the operations center to contact a rescue helicopter for transport to a trauma center,” said Knebl.

A LifeNet rescue helicopter was dispatched and a landing pad was set up on a soccer field behind Saint Margaret Mary Catholic School at 119 South Hubbard Street in Algonquin.

Firefighters stabilized the man’s situation and met with paramedics at the landing zone, Knebl said.

He was flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.

“The patient’s condition is currently unknown,” said Knebl.
