A lucky person in Texas has received a life-changing amount of money as he just won nearly a billion dollars in the latest Mega Millions lottery jackpot.

On Tuesday, September 10, a ticket holder won the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot in Sugar Land, Texas, where he purchased his ticket at a Murphy USA gas station, according to the Texas Lottery. The winning ticket had the numbers 1, 2, 16, 24, 66 and the gold Mega ball 6.

The Sept. 10 drawing was the largest Mega Millions jackpot since the March 26 drawing, when $1.13 billion – the game’s fifth-largest jackpot – was won by an out-of-state player, the Texas Lottery said in a news release.

Additionally, the press release noted that the $800 million jackpot has an estimated cash value of $401.8 million – making it the seventh-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

September is considered a lucky month, lottery authorities said in their press release, because since the game was introduced 22 years ago, there have been 22 Mega Millions winners in September – the most recent win occurred on September 21, 2021, when an out-of-state player took home a $431 million prize.

The next Mega Millions drawing will take place on Friday, September 13th, but with comparatively much smaller prize amounts, as the new jackpot is only worth $20 million.
