Love Is Blind fans react to Leo and Brittany’s engagement

Love Is Blind fans are reacting to an unusual editing decision by the show’s production team that has never been made before.

In the first few episodes of season seven (beginning October 2), viewers saw seven couples get engaged and meet for the first time in the pods. But surprisingly, fans soon learned that only six of the seven couples would continue the experiment.

Leo Braudy, a 31-year-old art dealer, was frequently seen earlier in the season when he began a love triangle with 33-year-old Brittany Wisniewski and 27-year-old Hannah Jiles. Leo struggled with his feelings for both women and even asked his fellow cast members for advice more than once.

Hannah ultimately chose Leo when she realized she had a stronger connection with Nick Dorka, a 29-year-old real estate agent. After his relationship with Hannah ended, Leo quickly shifted his focus to Brittany and later proposed in Episode 5.

“I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I’m so in love with you,” he told her. “So now it’s time for me to ask. I’m on one knee. Brittany Nicole Wisniewski, will you marry me?”

She said yes, but seemed to doubt her decision when they met in person.

At the reveal, Leo proposed again and the two sat down to talk. Brittany said it was “weird” being engaged and said she didn’t know how she felt. When Leo told her he loved her, Brittany replied, “I don’t feel ready to say that yet.”

As they kissed and cuddled, she said: “This is definitely one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.”

She also said that she would reciprocate his feelings once she was really serious about it.

In her confessional interview, Brittany shared, “Something in my brain isn’t doing the math. Holy shit, this stranger just asked me to marry him.”

The newly engaged couple said goodbye and agreed that they would see each other in Miami, even if they didn’t join the other couples in Mexico for the next part of the experiment.

Then the show revealed that viewers wouldn’t see what would happen next in Leo and Brittany’s relationship.

Are Brittany and Leo still together?

The text appeared on the screen: “Brittany and Leo were not among the six couples selected by producers to continue their trip in Mexico. They took their own trip to Miami and called off their engagement weeks later.”

It was the first time Love Is Blind aired a proposal before it was announced that the cast would no longer be featured in future episodes. Typically, the show completely cuts out any couples who weren’t chosen to continue the experiment outside of the pods. Last year, creator Chris Coelen confirmed in an interview with Variety that several couples wouldn’t make it into the final cut of the show.

“Every season there are a lot of stories that we don’t tell, whether couples get engaged or not. We’ll even follow some of them for a while and not show their story on the show…It’s kind of a judgment call,” he said.

But this time, Love Is Blind viewers were interested in Leo and Brittany’s relationship before abruptly announcing that their time on the show was over, leading to mixed reactions from fans.

One viewer responded to producers’ decision on X by posting a video of Ramona Singer saying “thank God” in a clip from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

“Can’t say I’m surprised by the Leo and Brittany update,” tweeted another, adding a skull emoji. “You could literally see it on her face when she walked out.”

Others were dissatisfied that they didn’t get to see Leo and Brittany’s story unfold.

A viewer posted on X: “I’m sorry???? We just sat through FOUR EPISODES of the Nick/Hannah/Leo/Brittany drama just for the producers to NOT SEND LEO AND BRITTANY TO MEXICO?!?!?!?!”

“As a producer, why would you NOT choose Leo and Brittany to continue?” one fan asked. “They would have made great television.”

Another X user said: “Ayo, Netflix, what’s going on here?! We had to watch the crisis between Leo and Brittany unravel after you forced us to observe so much of the buildup in the pods.”

What happened between Leo and Brittany?

Coelen explained the reasons behind the choice of cut regarding Leo and Brittany in a recent interview with Variety.

“We have the budget to accompany five couples, and sometimes we expand it to six couples, and we figure out how to put our crews together,” he said.

He added: “As we make the decision about who to follow, and as we have more couples who are engaged, we are making a decision about which couples we consider to be authentic.” And when I say “authentic,” I mean the highest probability of actually standing at the altar and saying “I do.” Who is really really on this path? We felt at the time that the six couples we ended up following were the ones who, from a gut level, had more of a real chance of saying “I do” – that they really cared about saying “Yes.” “Do this” to say. “The couple that I thought we had the least chance of doing that with was Leo and Brittany.”

Coelen said it was necessary to include parts of Leo and Brittany’s love story because it ties into Hannah and Nick’s journey.

But that doesn’t mean Love Is Blind fans won’t see Leo and Brittany on the show in the near future.

“I think they will definitely be at the reunion,” Coelen told the publication.
