Big changes are coming for travelers using Amtrak to get from Rensselaer-Albany station to New York City.

MPs Pat Fahy and John Mcdonald are concerned about reports of a reduction in the number of return flights from next month.

Rep. McDonald told CBS-6 that the reduction in routes is due to planned work on the East River Tunnels in New York City.

With the construction, Amtrak wants to limit the number of trains.

McDonald and Fahey wrote a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

They are demanding some concessions to help drivers.

In a statement, MP Fahy explains why this is personal to her.

“We thought it was important to stay on the record and hold back a little bit. I use that phrase myself,” said Rep. Pat Fahy.

In a letter to Amtrak’s CEO, AmeriStarRail suggested several solutions that could help prevent a disruption in service from Albany.
