The Family Service Association of Bucks County announced that Romeo Angelini, 17, a 12th grader at Neshaminy High School, recently hosted a food drive outside the Giant grocery store in Langhorne. The event was a community effort to support the Family Service food bank.

Angelini has been involved in the community since he was 10 years old. For the past seven years, he has celebrated his birthday by organizing a food drive and donating the collected items to the Family Service food bank. His tireless commitment to helping those in need was recognized last October when he was honored at the agency’s annual golf outing. In recognition of his support and generosity, Angelini received the Susan N. Altomari Champion for Youth Award. This prestigious award is given annually to individuals who positively impact the lives of youth in Bucks County through Family Service initiatives.

“I’ve learned that food pantries are often in greater need when my birthday comes around, as it is right before the December holidays,” Angelini said in a statement. “The gift of giving back is better than any gift I could receive on my birthday.”

As Angelini celebrates his 18th birthday this December, he wants to make an even bigger impact. He talked to management at Giant, where he works, about the idea of holding a large-scale food drive in front of the store. Giant loved the idea and agreed to support the initiative. In addition to collecting food donations, Giant sold hot dogs and pretzels to customers, and a face painter was on hand to entertain the children. All proceeds from these activities will be donated to Family Service.

Distinguished guests, including Senator Frank Farry and State Representative Joe Hogan, came out in the morning to personally thank Angelini for his service to the community. Donations of nonperishable food items were accepted throughout the event.
