Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson underwent surgery to repair broken tibia and fibula, with no timetable for return, team says

The Detroit Lions provided an update on Aidan Hutchinson on Monday after the star defenseman suffered a serious leg injury during the team’s 47-9 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Hutchinson went down in the third quarter after intercepting a sack from Dak Prescott. He was in clear pain as he fell to the ground and was carried off the field on a backboard.

“Aidan Hutchinson underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula last evening at Baylor White Medical Center in Irving, Texas,” the team said in a statement.

“Hutchinson will return to Detroit this week and is expected to make a full recovery. There is currently no timetable for his return to play.”

The third-year Pro Bowl player still leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks as he is expected to miss at least the remainder of the regular season. He had 19 total tackles and one forced fumble.

“He’s in good hands right now,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters on Sunday. “He will be taken care of. He will stay here. Obviously he’s going to be out for a while. That’s hard. It’s hard to lose someone like him, but we’ll know a lot more afterward. Of course I wish he was the best.”

He’s one of the reasons the Lions’ defense has seen an upswing since the 2022 season. Detroit selected him with the No. 2 overall pick that year, and he immediately performed strongly. With 9.5 sacks and three interceptions, he finished second in the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year category.
