Likely Teams Real Madrid-Borussia Dortmund: Luka Modric helps rack up minutes and win a fearsome front three

Real Madrid begin a crucial week against Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu, with an eye on El Clasico this Saturday. In the new edition of the Champions League final, both teams look a little different compared to the meeting at Wembley Stadium, as Dortmund has a new coach in Nuri Sahin and neither Mats Hummels nor Marco Reus.

Los Blancos are expected to start with Ferland Mendy and Luka Modric, with the latter providing a wonderful assist for Vinicius Junior. According to Marca, Rodrygo Goes is also expected to return, with Fran Garcia, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga set to sit on the bench in a more conventional lineup after Carlo Ancelotti experimented with a deeper role for Tchouameni against Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile, Diario AS are unsure whether both Modric and Rodrygo will return as Camavinga is keeping his place according to their diagnosis. Ancelotti will be without Dani Carvajal, David Alaba and Brahim Diaz, but the injury list is getting smaller, with the latter back in partial training since Monday.

Sahin will be without Yan Couto, Karim Adeyemi, Gio Reyna and young winger Julien Duranville. His lineup is expected to be a 4-4-2 formation, with the speedy Jamie Gittens and Donyell Malen. Marcel Sabitzer caused Los Blancos problems in midfield in London and Real Madrid will face a new opponent in Waldemar Anton, who was brought in this summer to replace Hummels.
