Lightning drops the puck for another season at Amalie Arena

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning are back in the building to drop the puck for another season.

Tampa Bay (1-0 after opening the season on the road with a 4-1 win at Carolina) will be back at Amalie Arena to face Vancouver on Tuesday night.

Game time is 7 p.m

What you need to know

  • The Tampa Bay Lightning’s home opener tonight
  • Tampa Bay hosts Vancouver on Tuesday at 7 p.m
  • Lightning will start the game live without captain Steven Stamkos

The Bolts’ home opener was postponed Saturday because of Milton.

To give something back to the recovering fans, the Bolts have offered discounted tickets for the first three home games.

The team is also hosting a food drive at Ford Thunder Alley tonight and Thursday evening. They collect items for the community. That starts at 5 p.m

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay returns a team to the ice that no longer has starter and captain Steven Stamkos in the middle of its lineup.

The Lightning will also offset the loss of defenseman Mikhail Sergachev and winger Anthony Duclair with the additions of center Jake Guentzel, defensemen Ryan McDonagh and JJ Moser, and rookie center Conor Geekie.

Stamkos was the face of the franchise for more than a decade and the Lightning admit their longtime captain will be missed. But the expectations haven’t changed for a team that’s not too far away from making three straight Stanley Cup Finals and winning it twice.

The Lightning feel like their championship window is far from closed.

And with a star-studded core of Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman, Andrei Vasilevskiy and Brayden Point, complemented by talented off-season additions Guentzel and McDonagh, it’s hard to argue they can’t keep up.
