How? LG recently stated in its report to the Investors Forum that “in the HVAC sector, LG leads the high-efficiency market with its advanced inverter and heat pump technologies and is actively targeting the AI data center cooling system market, where demand is increasing rapidly.”

LG elaborated, saying that LGE’s cooling business is on track to become a unicorn (a privately held, unlisted startup company valued at over $1 billion) in three years, and that it is now seeing new opportunities – big money – in the data center business, data center cooling.

Back in May 2024, LGE announced that it would supply a “large data center under construction in the USA” with large-scale cooling using chillers, but kept the name of the client secret. The deal in question is said to be worth tens of millions of dollars, with LGE supplying over 100 chillers.

LG stated: “Over the past three years, LG’s chiller business has achieved a compound annual growth rate of over 15 percent, with overseas sales more than doubling during the same period. LG plans to leverage its extensive experience in supplying chillers to power plants, data centers and other facilities, along with its highly efficient core technologies, to actively target the data center cooling market.“.

The company added: “In addition, LG is preparing to commercialize new solutions, such as liquid immersion cooling, which are becoming increasingly important in the market.“.
