LeBron James wears a bandage over his eye while watching the US women’s basketball game

The 39-year-old basketball star was spotted sitting courtside with his U.S. basketball teammates Bam Adebayo and Devin Booker to cheer on the women’s national team in their quarterfinal match against Nigeria at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Adebayo, 27, and James both wore US team gear for the game, but the Los Angeles Lakers star also wore a conspicuously large bandage over his eye during the game.

The previous evening, James was injured during the US men’s team’s victory over Brazil when he received an “accidental elbow” to the face.

The basketball star was also accompanied by his wife Savannah James during the women’s quarterfinal match and PEOPLE spotted the couple holding hands as they entered the Bercy Arena before the game began.

During the USA’s 122-87 victory over the Brazilian team, James was elbowed in the eye.

He told reporters, including PEOPLE, that he was “okay” after the game and that he “just accidentally got elbowed,” adding that he was ready to “tune up” for the team’s morning film session to prepare for the semifinal match against Serbia on Thursday, August 8.

But according to Bleacher Report and Sports illustratedUS team head coach Steve Kerr said James received four stitches in the upper eye area following the injury.

During the women’s team clash on Wednesday, LeBron also greeted NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki and gold medalist Katie Ledecky, who sat courtside alongside swimming legend Michael Phelps.

Booker, 27, followed the game with his video camera in hand and has been documenting his Olympic experience since his arrival in Paris.

During Tuesday’s men’s game, WNBA star A’ja Wilson – who scored 20 points in the U.S.’s win over Nigeria on Wednesday – sat courtside with Snoop Dogg to cheer on the NBA stars.

It’s unclear if Savannah was in attendance for Tuesday’s men’s quarterfinals, but the couple’s eldest son, Bronny James, was seen in the stands cheering on his father – and new teammate.

Bronny, 19, was drafted by the Lakers in this summer’s NBA draft.

After Tuesday’s win, LeBron told reporters he was grateful to be able to play for Team USA again after 21 seasons in the NBA. “It’s a blessing and an honor to still be able to compete at this level and represent Team USA, especially in the later stages,” he said.
