LB Kaleb Spencer with a strong first …

Kaleb Spencer was perhaps the least noticeable of Virginia Tech’s three transfers after the spring, considering one of them was a quarterback and the other came from Alabama.

The sophomore LB coming out of Miami was a bit of a surprise, as he seemed best suited as a STAR linebacker, where the Hokies already have a quality starter in Keonta Jenkins and a promising freshman in Gabe Williams. Otherwise, Tech had a clear top group for the other linebacker positions, including some young players like Caleb Woodson as well as veterans like Sam Brumfield, Keli Lawson, Jaydon McDonald and Jaden Keller.

Spencer was an interesting prospect in many ways, though, as he has good size at 6’2″ and 215 pounds and gained valuable experience on Miami’s special teams as a freshman. The Gloucester, VA native also has a redshirt available, which had many expecting a redshirt given the depth the Hokies have at the linebacker position. He was also from Virginia, and the Hokies already had success with their first Virginia native to transfer to VT from another Power 4 school during Brent Pry’s tenure in Antwaun Powell-Ryland last season.

Although the possibility of a redshirt position is still a possibility, Spencer is already showing promise and impressing everyone who has watched him at work.

Let’s start with the part of the training that was open to the media last Friday.
