Lautaro is frustrated with modern refereeing, Mkhitaryan is ready for Napoli

Lautaro Martinez expressed his displeasure with modern refereeing after Inter’s 1-0 win over Venezia, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan is already looking forward to a Scudetto showdown with Napoli.

On paper it was a fairly easy task for Italy’s reigning champions, but in reality it was anything but as they missed numerous chances to score, even after Lautaro Martinez headed in Federico Dimarco’s cross.

Marcus Thuram, along with Mkhitaryan, was largely to blame for failing to take advantage of his chances, while Inter player Filip Stankovic also made some good saves.

There was some late drama at 97Th Minute when Marin Sverko thought he had equalized with the last shot of the game, but the VAR did not recognize it due to handball as he jumped with Yann Bisseck.

The tension aroused the Argentine international, who was annoyed by the general approach of referee Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi.

“There were zero minutes of added time in the first half, but seven after the break. I think football has to move forward and we’re not doing that,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN.

“That’s why we’re angry. If we want football to improve, we all have to do more. In any case, we take note of these three points and continue our work on the field. Of course we also have our own fault for not finishing the game earlier, we did the same thing against Juventus. It’s a long season, but we have to improve on these details.”

Strangely, Lautaro Martinez hadn’t scored a Serie A goal at the San Siro in eight months since hosting Atalanta in February, so it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

“It was high time! I always say that I work for the team, I missed two goals in the first half, but I’m happy because we took the points home.”

Mkhitaryan missed a few great chances and another was disallowed due to Federico Dimarco’s offside position in the build-up.

“Playing in this team is special, I really enjoy it and my teammates help me. I try to do my best whether I play 60, 70 or 90 minutes,” Mkhitaryan told DAZN.

Despite facing his former club in the Champions League during the week, the Armenian is already distracted by the next Serie A encounter with the league leaders.

“We have to think about Arsenal first, then we can think about Napoli. It will be a very interesting game against Napoli because it is a fight for the top of the table.”
