Latest superyacht sinking case: British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch missing after disaster off Sicily; wife among those rescued | World news

After the sinking, Bayesian lies on the seabed at a depth of around 49 metres. Special divers are currently examining the wreck.

Here’s what we know about the boat:

Bayesian was built in 2008 by the Italian shipbuilder Perini and last refitted in 2020.

Its 75-meter-high mast is the tallest aluminum mast in the world, according to Perini’s website.

Shipspotting.com says it was owned by a company called Revtom Limited. Mike Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, is listed in company documents as the company’s sole shareholder.

The yacht’s name would resonate with Mr Lynch, as his doctoral thesis and the software that made him a fortune were based on Bayesian theory.

The vessel has won a number of awards for its design and, according to specialist yacht websites, can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of ten.

The ship is said to have been formerly named Salute when it sailed under the Dutch flag and features a minimalist interior made of light wood with Japanese accents.

The price for chartering the yacht is not specified, but similar vessels are offered for around £170,500 per week.
