Laredo waives flea market fees on National Garage Sale Day

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The City of Laredo has waived all garage sale permits and fees in celebration of National Garage Sale Day through Sunday, August 11. For the next three days, residents can hold garage sales without a permit.

Locals are already preparing their garage sales. Gloria Flores, who runs a garage sale, said, “I sell for $1 to $3. I sell whatever it is so I can get rid of stuff. Get your stuff out. It’s good for us because at least we’re doing something and everyone gets a chance to do it.”

National Garage Sale Day is celebrated on the second Saturday in August, which this year is August 10th.

In honor of National Garage Sale Day, the City of Laredo is making it easier than ever to host a garage sale this weekend.

The City of Laredo and the Department of Buildings will not charge fees for garage sales from Friday, August 9, through Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Some residents are already taking advantage of the free permits and hosting flea markets throughout the city. During this time, no permits or fees are required anywhere in the city.

National Garage Sale Day, celebrated on the second Saturday in August, encourages residents to get involved, declutter their homes, find unique items and socialize with neighbors along the way.

Residents should follow local regulations regarding signs and disposal of unsold items. For more information, contact the Building Department at (956) 794-1625.
