The Rising South Carolina defender who could push the boundaries of this defense

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Seller had to leave the first half a little early after sustaining an ankle injury in a tackle.

He will return in the second half, but how much he can do remains to be seen, according to a report from ABC’s Holly Rowe.

“Well, they’ve got his ankle taped up and he’s going to try to play, they’re just not sure how much he can do,” Rowe said. “He was one of the last guys out of the locker room. You can see his ankle is heavily taped up. When he jogged out of the tunnel, he was clearly limping.

“Now Shane Beamer repeated at halftime that they had a lot of confidence in (backup Robby) Ashford. This is a big turn of events. We’ll see how much LaNorris Sellers can do, but how much he can run, that’s such a big part of his game.”

The play that injured LaNorris Sellers occurred late in the second quarter as South Carolina pushed for a final score before halftime. LSU linebacker Greg Penn III got pressure from inside and forced Sellers to go into the pocket.

When he did this, Defensive End Brady Swinson crashed off the edge, wrapped around his legs and landed with full force on his ankle.

Sellers immediately grabbed the ankle. He took a minute and then hobbled off the field with a trainer to the team bench.

After examining the ankle for a minute or two, Sellers decided to head to the locker room early with the team’s trainer, leaving backup quarterback Robby Ashford on the field for the final play of the half.

Ashford took a 3-yard sack, putting the team out of field goal range. The clock ticked down to zero, and South Carolina led 24-16 at halftime.

It is worth mentioning that LaNorris Sellers also briefly took the field last week for the game against Kentuckyonly to come back and have an excellent second half, so there’s hope he can do the same today.
