KSHB 41 Weather Blog | We are preparing you for severe weather on Wednesday

Happy Halloween evening, Weather Blog readers!

It’s certainly a scary morning outside with gusty southerly winds, very warm temperatures and high humidity for late October.

You may feel the weather changing on the horizon.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed our area in Severe Storm Danger Levels 2 and 3 this evening.

The Kansas City metropolitan area has an increased risk of severe weather (3 out of 5) as a very strong cold front moves through.

THREATS:
The primary concern remains damaging wind gusts reaching 60-70 mph along a line of thunderstorms.

However, it will also be important to monitor the potential for tornadoes.

The SPC has advised that there is a rare 10% chance of strong tornadoes in our area.

This view catches our attention because it is so rare this late in the fall season!

The problem area stretches from northern Oklahoma through eastern Kansas to the state line.

This shows us that there is a greater chance of seeing a strong, destructive tornado Right Storm. This also says that there is a 90% chance that we will not see a tornado.

For more on this, check out Cassie Wilson’s blog from yesterday!

TIMING:
Morning until 2 p.m. — Cloudy, warm and windy with occasional showers or thunderstorms.

Any development that forms during this window will not be severe and will help limit supercell development ahead of the storm line. That’s good news.

2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. — Isolated strong storms may form off the main route. These could roll over KC.

Upper level support will be limited with these storms, so not too concerning, but worth keeping an eye on.

6 p.m. to midnight — During this period we would like to draw your attention to the weather!

A line of storms will barrel toward Kansas City with heavy rain (up to 1-2 inches) and most likely damaging winds. If a tornado were to form, it would track along the leading edge and would be short, short-lived, and weak. Something we will be watching closely.

The greatest impacts for KC will occur between 9 and 11 p.m
