Knoxville Weather | Cold fronts are “doubling” this week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Colder air is moving into our area today, with winds behind the first cold front, and a second front is making it even colder through midweek, with isolated snow on mountain peaks and frozen areas ahead.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Winds will increase today, with a northwesterly breeze of 10 to 15 mph and gusts around 20 mph. These winds will continue throughout the evening and into the early hours of the night.

The mostly sunny day helps offset the cool wind, but still slows down warming today. This puts Knoxville almost 10 degrees below average with a high of 65 degrees.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with cooler lows of 43 degrees in Knoxville and over 30 degrees in our higher elevations. As the wind dies down there will be some frost in our higher elevations around the valley.

The look forward

A second cold front will bring scattered snowfall to mountaintops, but most will only see additional clouds Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday it will only get to 60 degrees. There will be a cold wind blowing from the northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 20 miles per hour.

Wednesday will start in the upper 30s with patchy frost. It’s a mostly sunny day with a few more clouds and scattered snow on the mountain peaks. It will be 59 degrees in Knoxville on Wednesday.

Thursday morning we’ll be in the upper 30s with patchy frost, then mostly sunny and low 60s in the afternoon.

In your First Alert 8-Day Planner, afternoons continue to warm from Friday through the weekend. We want to stay dry and mostly sunny early next week.
