Kittle, Warner active; McCaffrey on the mend

SANTA CLARA – Fred Warner has only missed one game in his career. George Kittle missed one this season. None of the 49ers stars will miss another goal today.

Both Warner and Kittle will face the Arizona Cardinals due to health issues that make them questionable for the 1:05 p.m. kickoff.

Warner, a candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, left with an ankle injury suffered in last Sunday’s 30-13 win over New England. Kittle, who made a stunning touchdown catch last Sunday, escaped with injured ribs. Both players sat in practice on Wednesday and Thursday before taking part in Friday’s practice.

Listed as inactive for the 49ers were offensive lineman Ben Bartch, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, wide receiver Jacob Cowing (shoulder), wide receiver Chris Conley (oblique), linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) and cornerback Darrell Luter .

McCAFFREY UPDATE, sort of

Running back Christian McCaffrey’s calf and Achilles tendon pain “has not increased this week after on-field work,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. McCaffrey’s return to on-field activity is the first step toward a potential debut this season.

McCaffrey was placed on injured reserve in Week 2 after missing the season opener with a “questionable” rating. He’s eligible to open his three-week training window this week, but the 49ers aren’t expected to make such a return until later this month, at the earliest. They will have a light practice on Tuesday before flying to Seattle on Wednesday for Thursday night’s game against the Seahawks.

Although McCaffrey battled Achilles tendonitis in both legs, he improved on one leg and is focusing his rehabilitation on the other, ESPN reported. After visiting the Seahawks, the 49ers host the Kansas City Chiefs (October 20) and Dallas Cowboys (October 27) before a bye in Week 9.
