Kirby Smart uses the Netflix documentary analogy to motivate Georgia players

Fresh off a strengthened rivalry win Auburn, Georgia is 4:1 and is rolling into a home game Mississippi State – with a massive showdown with Texas on the other hand. But Kirby Smart don’t look too far into the future.

In fact, he was just trying to get his team going as they began another week of practice. And he used an analogy shared with him to get the emotions flowing.

“We don’t rely on other people’s motivation,” Smart said. “I just don’t think that’s a good approach. We’re really focusing on pride in achievement this week. And I have a great analogy that someone sent me and said, “If they made a Netflix documentary about you this week, who would want to watch it?” Would they agree? Would you send it to your parents? Would you send it to an NFL team if they made a documentary about your performance, your pride and your training that week?'”

Apparently it worked, Smart said.

“And I was shocked. They all must have thought that the Netflix documentary was on them today because they trained better than ever before. So just give them a little attention and they’ll eat it up,” Smart said.

Smart offered updates on some injured players

A day before the SEC mandates that he submit an injury report before a conference showdown, Smart called attention to the injury situation of some of his team’s key players Mississippi State. Smart was asked for a status update on offensive lineman Jared Wilsonand defensive linemen Christians Miller And Jordan Hall.

“Is this thing coming out tonight?” Smart said, perhaps a little unprepared. “Tomorrow I couldn’t remember what day it was. It’s Tuesday, right? Coming out on Wednesday. I wanted to say it will be out soon.”

He then provides some health updates for Georgia.

“Christen could practice,” Smart said. “Jared is still, Jared is better than he was, but he’s not doing full-load reps. He does some reps. It takes more than last week, but not the full load. And Christen takes over repetitions.”

Miller was the last lineman to get injured for Georgia as he suffered a left knee injury in the game against Georgia Auburn. He was seen on the sidelines icing his knee at one point.

Smart said he thinks Miller is doing well and is a walk in the park after exiting the game while players further down the depth chart face the Tigers.

Wilson, Georgia’s starting center, missed the Auburn game with a foot injury. Smart said he would have been available to act as an emergency dispatcher if needed.
