Kimmel mocks Walz after he makes a gaffe about “waking up on November 6th with Madam President” in the interview

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz raised some eyebrows about what he plans to do on Nov. 6 during his late-night debut on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

On Monday, Walz and liberal host Jimmy Kimmel took turns slamming his Republican rival, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, over his refusal to say during last week’s vice presidential debate that former President Trump lost the 2020 election.

Walz called it “very surreal” to listen to, but fell back on his own optimism that the country would “turn the tide” on Election Day.

“For me, and being an eternal optimist, I always say that. I managed the cafeteria at a high school – you’re either an optimist or you’re dead,” Walz said. “With this idea we can turn this on its head and I plan to wake up with Madam President on November 6th.”

As the liberal audience cheered, Kimmel jokingly asked for clarification.

“I want to make it clear, you will not wake up together,” Kimmel replied with a grin.

“No,” laughed Walz.

“Unless you’re closer than we thought,” Kimmel joked.

“I have a problem with not being able to formulate my language precisely. Thank you very much for that, exactly right,” chuckled Walz.

Walz previously went viral when he falsely claimed during the vice presidential debate that he had “befriended school shooters.”

“I was sitting in this office with these Sandy Hook parents. I became friends with school shooters. I saw it,” Walz said.

The ill-timed mishap occurred as Walz was asked about a change in position on the assault weapons ban, which he previously opposed but now supports. Walz said he has become friends with parents who have lost children in school shootings.

He also made headlines when he referred to himself as a “knucklehead” after being harassed for his falsehoods about his stay in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square massacre.

During an interview on “60 Minutes,” Walz was asked if he could be trusted as other past statements have come under intense scrutiny.

“Is this some kind of misrepresentation? “Isn’t that more than just being a jerk?” asked CBS News’ Bill Whitaker.

“I think people know who I am and I think they know the difference between someone who expresses feelings, tells a story, goes on a fake date … and a pathological liar like Donald Trump,” Walz said.

“But I think it comes down to the question of whether you can be trusted to tell the truth,” Whitaker followed.

“Yeah, well, I can. I think I can,” Walz replied.

“I admit to being a jerk sometimes, but the people closest to me know that I keep my word,” Walz added.
