Kevin Sorbo conquers Hollywood – one inspiring film after another

By Movieguide® Contributor

Kevin Sorbo says his latest film THE FIRING SQUAD is “a story about redemption.”

Sorbo recently spoke about the film during an appearance on the podcast “Livin’ the Bream.”

According to IMDb, THE FIRING SQUAD is based on “the true story of three Christian prisoners facing execution in a third world country and how their joy in Christ leads to a stunning end.”

An excerpt from the Movieguide® review reads:

THE FIRING SQUAD is based on a true story. Kevin Sorbo plays an American inmate on death row in an Indonesian prison who becomes a prison chaplain and cares for two new inmates, played by James Barrington and Cuba Gooding Jr., who are also sentenced to death. The low budget sometimes hurts THE FIRING SQUAD, but the film’s grandiose ending is emotionally powerful and shows the redemptive power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“This should go to every single prison, not just in America, but around the world,” Sorbo said. “It’s truly a story about redemption.”

The actor said of the audience’s reaction: “At the end of the film, people stand up and applaud, some cry – it’s an incredible, touching film.”

Sorbo also spoke about his commitment to creating uplifting, faith-based content.

“I want to make films that inspire people, motivate them, and make them realize that there is hope out there, that there is potential for redemption out there, no matter what path you take,” he concluded.

In a statement about THE FIRING SQUAD, Sorbo said, “In today’s entertainment landscape, it is critical that we support projects that uphold Christian values and tell stories of faith. We have a battle to win in Hollywood. Films like this are powerful tools to spread messages of hope and inspiration.”

One of the film’s stars, Cuba Gooding Jr., also issued a statement: “Our nation, not to mention the entire world, seems to be turning away from God in so many areas of society. It is time for us to return to our faith. Our film THE FIRING SQUAD was the first script I read in a very long time that reminded me that we are all surrounded by God’s love and that His faith is eternal. It is a story of redemption the likes of which I have not seen in a very long time.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the impact THE FIRING SQUAD had on Gooding Jr.:

Cuba Gooding Jr. says his role in his latest film, “The Firing Squad,” helped him rediscover his faith in God.

“It revealed once again my famous faith in God and my walk with Him. And it announced to the world, don’t forget who this boy is and where he came from,” Gooding Jr. told CBN about his role in the film.

He continued, “It’s one thing to say you believe in God and you walk by faith. But it’s a whole other thing to remind people exactly where my joy comes from. My mother said to me in the darkest of times, ‘Son, never let them take your joy away from you.’ And that’s the one thing I insist on, as crazy as things get, I just have to keep smiling because that’s who I am.”
