Kempower builds truck charging stations for the logistics company DFDS

Both parties have agreed to provide chargers “on demand” – that is, no fixed number of charging stations will be built. Instead, DFDS can decide according to its needs. According to the partners, the first projects with Kempower fast chargers have already been installed at five locations, three in the Netherlands and one each in Belgium and Sweden.

Kempower describes the latest project in more detail. The company has expanded a DFDS charging site in Gothenburg, Sweden, so that 38 charging points are now available there. This makes it “one of the largest eTruck charging depots in Sweden,” says Kempower. CEO Tomi Ristimäk also describes the collaboration with DFDS as “a significant milestone (which) serves as a strong example of how industry leaders are working together to drive the electrification of transport.”

Sophie-Kim Chapman, Vice President of Decarbonisation at DFDS, says her company aims to have at least a quarter of its fleet battery-electric by 2030. And: “Working with infrastructure partners such as Kempower is an important step towards achieving this.”

DFDS is headquartered in Copenhagen and already operates several electric trucks. In March, the logistics company ordered 100 electric trucks from Volvo Trucks, after the Danes had already ordered and subsequently put into operation 125 Volvo FM Electric trucks in 2021. They are in use in Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Belgium and the Netherlands, among others.

The new electric trucks, ordered in the spring, will be used in nine European markets, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, the UK and Ireland. Some of the vehicles in Sweden are currently being used by DFDS to transport goods to and from the Volvo Trucks factory in Gothenburg.
