Kansas vs ASU football live score updates, analysis for Big 12 game

(This story will be updated with the latest information on the ASU vs. Kansas college football game.)

The Arizona State football team continues its 2024 schedule with a game against Kansas on Saturday, October 5th.

Follow our live updates from the game being played at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona for the latest scores, news, notes and analysis of the Week 6 Big 12 Conference college football game between the Sun Devils and the Jayhawks.

Arizona State was eliminated last week. Kansas lost to TCU 38-27 in Week 5.

ASU football is 3-1 this season. Kansas is 1-4.

This is the first-ever matchup between the Sun Devils and Jayhawks, who are now Big 12 Conference rivals.

Kansas has a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

No, ASU was unable to capitalize on the fake punt against Kansas.

Jordyn Tyson fumbled the ball after a 9-yard catch trying to make something happen on the play, ending the Sun Devils’ drive.

It was only ASU’s third turnover of the season, but it came at a very critical time.

The third-place Sun Devils are 0-4 in this game.

But on fourth down they are tied 1-1.

ASU just extended a drive with a fake punt, with punter Kanyon Floyd completing a 15-yard pass to defensive lineman Clayton Smith on 4th-and-5 at the ASU 35 late in the first half.

Can Arizona State capitalize late in the first half? Two minutes remain in the second quarter.

The Sun Devils desperately needed a stop against Kansas.

You got it.

ASU forced Kansas to punt after the Jayhawks appeared to have some momentum on their drive, giving the ball back to the Sun Devils.

Kansas gets the ball early in the second half, so ASU really doesn’t want to fall behind by more than a touchdown in the first half.

ASU needs to find a way to stop Jalon Daniels. The Kansas QB is 10 of 13 in this game. He came into the game completing just 53% of his passes this season.

It forced a Daniels incompletion on 3rd-and-4 at the ASU 44 to force the Jayhawks to punt on their final possession.

The Sun Devils marched down the field against Kansas, and then everything went wrong.

After rushes of 3, 6, 19, 8 and 6 yards, Sam Leavitt’s pass to DeCarlos Brooks was dropped and then he completed a 6-yard pass to Troy Omeire.

On third down and 4 at the Kansas 16, Raleek Brown gained just one yard for Arizona State.

ASU went for a 4th-and-3 at the KU 16, but a false start forced the Sun Devils into a 38-yard field goal from Ian Hershey.

That field goal was blocked, causing ASU to come up empty on the drive and miss a great opportunity to tie this game.

The Sun Devils seemed to get some of their run game going on the drive, but they turned away from the run and lost their momentum.

The Jayhawks managed just 85 yards on 10 plays and took their first lead of the game on a 30-yard pass from Jalon Daniels to Quentin Skinner.

Skinner was completely candid because there seemed to be misunderstandings in the ASU secondary.

ASU also struggled to stop Kansas from making passes to its running backs in this game.

Devin Neal has four catches for 45 yards, while Daniel Hishaw Jr. has one catch for 17 yards.

Daniels is now 9 of 11 passing for 121 yards in this game, with the passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

This is the first time ASU has fallen behind at home this season.

Score: Kansas 14, ASU Football 7 (11:45 left in the second quarter)

ASU had 75 yards on its first possession.

However, this success could not be repeated.

It gained just 21 total yards on the second and third drives.

Cam Skattebo has three runs for 12 yards for the Sun Devils, who would definitely like to see the running back get some momentum.

ASU lost five yards and took a 3-3 lead on its final possession.

Kansas took a 3-3 lead on its second possession of the game, with ASU’s defense stepping up to contain Daniel Hishaw on two short runs and forcing Jalon Daniels to lose yards on another.

It bodes well for ASU’s run defense, which needs a big game against the Jayhawks’ running game.

The Sun Devils’ second possession of the game was not nearly as successful as the first.

ASU gained 11 yards on a Sam Leavitt rush to start the drive, but then gained just five yards on the next three plays and had to punt.

A 49-yard punt by Kanyon Floyd actually moved Kansas into its own territory.

Kansas QB Jalon Daniels just tied the score with a 22-yard touchdown run for the Jayhawks, his third rushing score of the season.

Both teams scored on their first drive. Kansas’ drive couldn’t have been more balanced.

On possession, it rushed for 37 yards and passed for 38 yards.

Devin Neal had a game-winning 25-yard catch out of the backfield to extend Kansas’ drive, which reached 75 yards on 10 plays.

Score: ASU Football 7, Kansas 7 (6:23 left in first quarter)

The Sun Devils got off to a great start against the Jayhawks, marching 75 yards in seven plays and taking a 7-0 lead over Kansas. This is Arizona State football’s Big 12 home opener.

Sam Leavitt hit Xavier Guillory with a 28-yard pass for a touchdown.

Leavitt completed a 3-for-3 pass for 45 yards on the drive.

ASU is 0-1 and Kansas is 0-2 in Big 12 play, so this game is important for both teams in the conference. The Jayhawks are 1-4 overall. The Sun Devils are 3-1.
