Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will miss four games as he continues to struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder

According to ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs have placed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football injury list.

Edwards-Helaire will miss at least the first four games of the season before he is eligible to play again.

The running back, whom the Chiefs drafted in the first round in 2020, recently spoke about an ongoing battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Earlier this month, Edwards-Helaire spoke about his mental health struggles.

“Sometimes I get hospitalized because I’m constantly vomiting and I just don’t know how to stop it,” Edwards-Helaire said. “I’m really severely dehydrated … but I’m just mentally not there.”

Edwards-Helaire has also spoken out on the issue on social media after missing several training camps, and he was not on the practice field with the Chiefs on Sunday.

“Living with PTSD is no small feat, it is hard and very overwhelming,” Edwards-Helaire posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“I’ve had a lot of bouts of illness over the last month and the great team here at the #Chiefs has helped me get through some difficult times. I’ll be back at the next training session!”

Last month, Edwards-Helaire revealed the exact date his PTSD began – December 22, 2018 – but did not elaborate on the details other than to say he and a friend were in a “self-defense situation.”

While Edwards-Helaire was at LSU, he and a teammate were trying to sell an electronic item when one of the two players shot and killed an 18-year-old who tried to rob them.

Police did not identify the players, but the Associated Press reported that one of them was Edwards-Helaire.

Recently, Edwards-Helaire has taken on a backup role to Isaiah Pacheco at the running back position. Kansas City recently added veteran RB Samaje Perine to its roster. Rookie Carson Steele has also made the team.
