Jolene’s shocking historical identity revealed

Agatha Harkness’s capacity for evil seemingly knows no bounds.

In the latest episode of Agatha All Along, it was revealed that Harkness was part of some of history’s worst moments: the Hindenburg disaster of 1937, the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and this time a radiant red-haired woman dared to flirt with Dolly Parton’s husband.

Yes, that’s right, it is Agatha Harkness The eponymous Jolene.

In the latest episode of the miniseries “Familiar by Thy Side,” a flashback shows Joe Locke’s character “Teen” (aka Billy Kaplan, aka Wiccan) as he explores the extensive story of Agatha Harkness. It spans centuries, dating back to the 1690s when Harkness avoided being killed during the Salem Witch Trials.

There’s also a brief moment where we catch a glimpse of an internet post featuring a newspaper article that reads, “Has this 1972 surveillance photo been archived?” Dolly PartonShow The real Jolene?” Below are two copies of the photo that shows Parton punching Agatha “Jolene” Harkness in the face.

In an interview for The WrapAgatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer was asked to officially confirm whether or not Harkness is indeed the infamous “Jolene.” She responded with a laugh and said, “In the MCU, damn it.”

The question was then asked about how the writers decided when and where Harkness would appear over time, and Shaeffer explained the process. She said he likes to give writers homework. One assignment was: “Tell me five vile, shameful things Agatha did in her deep past.”

Neither the Hindenburg nor the Titanic would be considered “low level,” and frankly neither would trying to steal Dolly Parton’s man! The cheek, the nerves, the cheek, the boldness and the courage! Shaeffer credited author Laura Donney with the idea and described it when she presented it to the team.

“That was Laura Donney’s idea. And I remember it being one of the funnest days in the room with everyone coming in with their brand of low-level Agatha villainy. And that was Laura Donney. She was like, “She’s Jolene.” And we just thought it was so funny.
