John Harbaugh interrupted the meeting to check on Jim Harbaugh’s heart problem

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh abruptly left his press conference after the team’s 30-23 victory over the Commanders on Sunday to check on his brother Jim.

Jim Harbaugh, in his first season as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, briefly left his team’s game against the Denver Broncos, minutes before John’s meeting with the media was scheduled to begin. He went to the medical tent and then to the locker room with what the team described as an illness.

Back in Baltimore, John Harbaugh answered just three questions after his opening statement before being called off the microphone by the team’s senior vice president of communications, Chad Steele.

Steele apologized and explained the situation, saying the Ravens wanted John to call to get more information about Jim.

Jim Harbaugh returned to the sidelines after only a short absence.

The Associated Press and ESPN later reported that Jim Harbaugh entered the medical tent after noticing his heart was beating irregularly. He said doctors gave him IV fluids and performed an EKG, which showed his heart had returned to normal beating.

“Everything was fine in the end,” Jim Harbaugh said.

“The doctors examined me and everything returned to normal. So came back. It’s the heart, so you take it seriously.”

The Chargers coach told reporters that he has struggled with atrial flutter for years:

In 1999, he underwent ablation to treat the cardiac arrhythmia. He also had another in 2012 when he coached the San Francisco 49ers. He remembers the event well because it came after a Monday night game in which Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a 32-7 victory over the Chicago Bears.
