Joel Embiid and Paul George of the Sixers were ruled out for Wednesday night’s game against Tobias Harris, Pistons

Update: October 29, 2024, 8:00 p.m. ET

There was some confusion and a lack of clarity (imagine that) as to whether or not Joel Embiid had fought in practice today or even during this process. It was largely assumed that this wasn’t the case, but ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the opposite on SportsCenter tonight.

Charania explained:

“There is some light at the end of the tunnel. (Embiid) has participated in several five-on-five fights in the last few days, including today, which represents noticeable progress for Joel Embiid going forward. We still don’t know exactly when he’ll be back, but he’s practicing so much, playing five-on-five matches.”

So yeah, Embiid, apparently has I fought. This is probably the best news we’ve received about the star center in about a month. So let’s just be grateful and wait for the next crazy update from this team.

The Philadelphia 76ers returned from their quick two-game road trip after defeating the Indiana Pacers on Sunday and were back at practice on Tuesday. That meant time for an update on Joel Embiid and Paul George!

Unfortunately, not the most exciting update came. Both Embiid and George have been ruled out for the team’s Wednesday game against former teammate Tobias Harris and the Detroit Pistons, the Sixers announced Tuesday.

Embiid and George have both missed the first three games of the regular season so far and will now miss the fourth. George’s missed games weren’t the biggest shock after he suffered a visible bone bruise in his left knee during a preseason contest, but Embiid’s absence (which was due to injury treatment on his left knee) was a little more surprising to fans. Regardless, the team always stuck to the line that both were making “progress” and would be reevaluated after last weekend.

That is now over and the next reassessment will take place later this week, according to the team. After Wednesday’s contest against an 0-4 Pistons team, the Sixers have two days off before hosting the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. So this is the next opportunity to see either player as they begin their season.

However, the duo took part in parts of the training.

Sixers head coach Nick Nurse did not provide any further information about the situation when asked by reporters at practice.

The Sixers are 1-2 in their first three games of the season with the duo out. It was a roller coaster ride, from a miserable loss to an undermanned Toronto Raptors team to their first win of the season in an overtime thriller against the Indiana Pacers.

The Sixers, without Embiid and George, will face the Pistons tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET at the Wells Fargo Center.
