Joe Biden delivers eulogy at Ethel Kennedy memorial service in Washington

A memorial service for Ethel Kennedy will be held in Washington on Wednesday.

According to her family, Kennedy, 96, died on October 10 after suffering a stroke a week earlier. Her funeral was held Monday in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

President Joe Biden will deliver a eulogy at Wednesday’s service, according to his schedule released by the White House. Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton will also be in attendance.

Kennedy was married to Robert F. Kennedy, brother of President John F. Kennedy. Robert F. Kennedy was fatally shot in 1968 while running for president. Together the couple had 11 children.

The service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, the human rights group Robert F. Kennedy confirmed. Ethel Kennedy was the organization’s founder and board member.

“Ethel Kennedy was an American icon — a matriarch of optimism and moral courage, a symbol of resilience and service,” Biden said in a statement on Oct. 10. “Devoted to her family and her country, she had a backbone of steel and a heart of gold that inspired millions of Americans, including me and Jill.” We were lucky enough to call her a dear friend.
