JetBlue offers hot meals for economy passengers

CNN

JetBlue Economy Class passengers will no longer find hot meals on the menu onboard transatlantic flights.

The airline’s new menus for its core economy class include the disclaimer: “All food is served chilled.”

That means chilled overnight oats, crepes and frittatas for breakfast. Lunch and dinner items include chilled soba noodles, a chicken grits bowl, and mushrooms and lentils.

Hot meals will continue to be offered to transatlantic passengers in the airline’s premium Mint class.

“Following a test run this summer on our seasonal flights to Dublin and Edinburgh, we are expanding a new core menu on our six daily transatlantic flights this winter,” JetBlue said in a recent statement to Business Insider. The airline said the new core menu “meets the standard we set for quality meals.” This change is part of our effort to ensure we can continue to provide a great experience at JetBlue’s competitive fares on these routes.”

CNN reached out to JetBlue for more details on the change, which was first reported by Live and Let’s Fly, noting a decrease in the number of flight attendants on transatlantic flights.

The cost reduction comes as part of the airline’s implementation of its “JetForward” strategy to restore sustainable profitability. In the second quarter of 2024, JetBlue reported net income of $25 million.

Last year, JetBlue reported an adjusted loss of $151 million, although that was an improvement from 2022’s $260 million.

The airline recently announced that it will open its first airport lounges at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York starting in late 2025.

The lounges are part of the airline’s efforts to meet demand for premium offerings, which fits into its JetForward initiative.

“Lounges have become a must-have offering for the growing number of customers seeking premium experiences, and JetBlue’s lounges will further increase the value of our TrueBlue loyalty program as we expand our portfolio of JetBlue credit cards,” said Marty St .George, president of JetBlue, in a statement.

CNN’s Chris Isidore contributed to this report.
