Jennifer Saunders joins the cast of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Tree

More names of the cast for the upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s popular children’s book classic, The magical faraway tree ((which is currently being filmed) have been announced.

These include Jennifer Saunders (Shrek2) who will play the role of the children’s ruthless grandmother alongside Hiran Abeysekera (The life of Pi) as Angry Pixie, one of the magical inhabitants of the forest, and Pippa Bennett-Warner (See how they run) as Grandma’s assistant Hannah.

Hiran Abeysekera and Pippa Bennett-Warner have joined the cast for The magical far away tree.

“Just when we thought our cast couldn’t get any more exciting, we’ve added these incredibly talented actors,” said the film’s producer, Pippa Harris, of the most recently confirmed cast members. “I know they will bring wit, wonder and warmth to their performances and we’re delighted to have them join us on this magical adventure.”

The Thompson children are played by newcomers Delilah Bennett-Cardy (ITVs Tom Jones), Billie Gadsdon (Cruella) and Phoenix Laroche (The plush rabbit).

“It’s a remarkable opportunity to assemble such a stellar and fascinating cast,” added Simon Williams, managing partner of Ashland Hill, which is financing the film. “We couldn’t be more excited for audiences of all ages to be transported to a world they’ve never seen before and experience this wondrous story brought to life.”

Principal photography on The magical faraway tree Filming began recently and took place in various locations in southern England and at Shinfield Studios in Reading. The adaptation was directed by Simon Farnaby (Wonka, Paddington2) and directed by Ben Gregor (Britannia).

The release date of “The Magic Faraway Tree” is yet to be announced
