Jennifer Lawrence remembers “stressful” wedding and asked Robert De Niro to “go home”

Jennifer Lawrence talks about her “stressful” wedding in 2019, during which she asked fellow actor Robert De Niro to leave the rehearsal dinner.

Lawrence, 33, spoke to E! News at the Golden Globes on Sunday and joked that being a bride was “terrible” and “so stressful.”

“You’re not having fun. You’re just thinking, ‘Is this person having fun?'” she continued. “I was freaking out because the guests were cold, and all my friends were lying and saying, ‘Nobody’s cold, nobody’s cold, everything’s fine, everything’s fine.’ My mom was like, ‘It’s freezing out there, your grandmother almost died.'”

Lawrence married art dealer Cooke Maroney in October 2018, the actor’s representative, Liz Mahoney, confirmed to USA TODAY at the time. The ceremony took place at a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, according to People and Associated Press.

The last straw was when she noticed at the rehearsal dinner that De Niro looked out of place. Lawrence and the 80-year-old actor have starred in several films together, including “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), “American Hustle” (2013) and “Joy” (2015).

“I looked over and saw Bob, not knowing anybody, kind of wandering around, and I immediately thought, ‘No, that’s not what he wants to do. I don’t want him here,'” Lawrence recalled. “So I went over and whispered, ‘Go home,’ and he was nice — he talked to my parents and was polite — but I said, ‘Go.'”

De Niro eventually left the party, which Lawrence said “really made him feel better.”

Lawrence and Maroney have since welcomed a baby boy, which she announced on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” in May 2022.

In Vogue’s October 2022 cover profile, Lawrence revealed that her son is named Cy – named after one of her husband’s favorite artists, American painter Cy Twombly – but also noted that she is still figuring out the limits of what she is willing to reveal about her child.

Review: We thought the Golden Globes couldn’t get any worse. We were wrong.

“It’s so scary to talk about motherhood,” Lawrence said. “Just because it’s so different for everyone. When I say, ‘It was great from the beginning,’ some people think, ‘It wasn’t great for me at the beginning,’ and feel bad,” she said.

She continued, “The morning after I gave birth, it felt like my whole life had started over. Like today was the first day of my life. I just stared. I was so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing. They’re these pink, puffy, fragile little survivors. Now I love all babies. Now I hear a baby crying in a restaurant and I’m like, ‘Ohhhh, how sweet.'”
